New intakes on hold temporarily
Homeward Bound Brantford-Brant (HWB) is a four-year intensive program that empowers low-income single mothers to improve their life and essential skills, obtain a college diploma, become employed, and to develop a network of supports and skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
Supported by a dedicated program coordinator, the program connects single mothers with services designed to enhance the family’s financial stability and break the cycle of poverty. Throughout the duration of the program participants receive ongoing support, instruction and case management to ensure their success and create lasting change for them and their children.
Who is eligible for admission?
If you are a single mother 19 or older, and are receiving, or are eligible to receive, OW, please contact us for more information about the program.
The program has 3 phases:
Phase 1: Program start: This includes essential skills, computer and financial literacy training, and academic upgrading for college entrance.
Phase 2: Phase two (Year 2 and 3) sees participants entering and successfully completing a two-year college diploma program and/or certificate program including apprenticeship programs. Throughout this phase, participants continue to receive the wraparound supports required to successfully complete their college program. Supports include many of the same listed in phase one with the addition of academic tutoring.
Phase 3: Phase three (Year 4) focuses on internship, mentorship, and obtainment of gainful employment. This is achieved through the use of an industry council and support from St. Leonard’s – Brant Employment Centre. Throughout this phase, participants continue to receive the wraparound supports required to successfully complete this phase of the program and achieve financial self-sufficiency.
Brant Skills Centre gratefully acknowledges funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
